Dave Z's love of music began as young child as he listened to countless hours of music (and some Richard Pryor) on his father's reel to reel and 8-track. Yes...he's that old! As a Towson State University student, his passion for radio began after his first shift on 89.7 WCVT. After college, Dave made his way to the legendary WHFS 99.1 in Washington DC as a producer and weekend host. He eventually became a jack of all trades by also becoming a Production Director as well as the producer of the HFStival Echo, an annual show recapping the events of the HFStival concert series. In 2000, Dave combined his love of music and movies and created Cinemagic, the only 24/7 all movie soundtrack channel on XM Satellite Radio. As creator and Program Director of the channel, he developed a myriad of unique programming including an hour-long film-based interview show called Reel Time. Guests included composers such as Danny Elfman and Howard Shore, actors such as Philip Seymour Hoffman, Daniel Craig, Jason Statham, and film directors such as James Cameron, Guillermo del Toro, George Lucas and many more. He was also a co-host of several pop culture related channels such Star Wars Celebration Radio and Comic-Con Radio for SiriusXM Radio. After becoming a dad in 2013, Dave decided to slow down a little and started working for WRNR, one of the last locally owned stations in the area.
Dave's love for all things pop culture is part of what drives him. To say he never grew up would be an understatement as his passion for music, movies, video games are what make him who he is today. He's a firm believer that these pop culture elements are in fact forms of art that should be shared and explored by all to get a fuller enjoyment out of life.
Catch Dave Z on air M-F 7 am-12 noon.
