Annapolis musician Dan Haas' quirky song prompts a donation of 1,000 pairs of socks to the Light House Shelter

Since the pandemic hit in March - Annapolis musician Dan Haas hasn't been able to gig as much as he used to - so he, like many of his contemporaries, took his music to the web - recording stream-of-consciousness songs and posting them online.

His latest song - about of all things, the Bombas socks he was wearing, caught the eye of the sock makers.

Now if you aren't familiar with Bombas - for every pair of socks they sell - they donate a pair to someone affected by homelessness.

So when Dan sang -

“Put them on in the morning, they fit like a glove. There isn’t many things I love as much as my Bombas socks, it’s true. The ones I’m wearing now are blue”

Bombas took notice and responded with a song of their own singing -

“You put our socks on your feet, now your song’s in our head,”

A post shared by bombas (@bombas)

They also committed to donating 1000 pairs of socks to the Light House Shelter in Annapolis .  Socks are one of the most coveted items for those living on the street - so with the cold weather setting in - the donation comes at the perfect time!  Thank you Dan and thank you Bombas

Save Our Stages Act Is Included in the COVID-19 Relief Bill - Providing Emergency Relief to Independent Music Venues and Concert Promoters o

The National Independent Venue Association scored a major victory this week - by having the Save Our Stages Act included in the COVID-19 Relief Bill ... with a little help from the 2.1 million of you who sent emails to your elected officials expressing your support for the Save Our Stages Act :)

So what does this mean?  As part of bill -  emergency relief funding will go to independent venues and promoters that have been devastated by the pandemic’s shutdown. This legislation will enable these mom-and-pop businesses to hold on until it’s safe to gather, reopen fully, and once again return to serving as the economic engines for their communities. Read NIVA's full statement and thanks here.

The legislation provides critical help to shuttered businesses by providing a grant equal to 45% of gross revenue from 2019, with a cap of $10 million per entity. This grant funding will ensure recipients can stay afloat until reopening by helping with expenses like payroll and benefits, rent and mortgage, utilities, insurance, PPE, and other ordinary and necessary business expenses.

NIVA will work with the Small Business Administration to ensure the emergency relief is dispersed as Congress intended, that the instructions and process to apply for grants ensure that the process is implemented accurately, fairly and as expediently as possible.

But the work's not done -since it could take weeks or even months for the funding to flow, the NIVA Emergency Relief Fund, with The Giving Back Fund as its 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor, continues to raise money to assist the venues at greatest risk of permanently going under as we wait for the grants to be issued. Anyone wishing to donate can do so here

You can also continue to purchase some of the sweet merch NIVA is offering

So keep on doing your part to stay safe, wear your mask, and we'll see you in the pit soon!

Chris Cornell covers John Lennon, Janis Joplin, ELO & more on new LP 'No One Sings Like You Anymore' [LISTEN]

Back in July, on what would've been his 56th birthdayChris Cornell's a previously unreleased cover of Guns N' Roses' "Patience" was released ... and now it's been revealed  turns out there were more unreleased covers Chris had recorded - , they will be released on a new album, No One Sings Like You Anymore,  set to be released March 19, 2021 (pre-order HERE).

Vicky Cornell Chris Cornell's widow, had this to say about the album -

"This album is so special because it is a complete work of art that Chris created from start to finish.  His choice of covers provides a personal look into his favorite artists and the songs that touched him. He couldn't wait to release it. This moment is bittersweet because he should be here doing it himself, but it is with both heartache and joy that we share this special album. All of us could use his voice to help heal and lift us this year, especially during the holiday season. I am so proud of him and this stunning record, which to me illustrates why he will always be beloved, honored, and one the greatest voices of our time."

Chris Cornell - Watching The Wheels  (John Lennon Cover)

Cornell's daughter Toni said :

"When my dad was making this album, it was so fun - I remember waking up in the morning, having breakfast with him and going with him into the studio.  We would take our piano lessons there, and Christopher would play video games with Brendan and my dad. We got to experience so much with him and have so many amazing memories. I'm really happy to be sharing this album. We love you, daddy,"

Hot Tip: An Annapolis Diner Left a $2020 Tip For Their Server Ahead of Anne Arundel County's Shutdown of Indoor and Outdoor Dining at Restaurants

After Anne Arundel County announced that indoor and outdoor dining at restaurants would be halted for 4 weeks  starting Wednesday at 5 p.m., there's been an outpouring of support for the restaurant industry.

Across the county - waitstaff and diners have posted pictures of receipts with large tips, some matching or even exceeding the amount of the bill and some with sweet notes attached as well.

But one diner this weekend at Evelyn’s in West Annapolis took things to another level - leaving a $2020 top of their $33 lunch tab - with the note "Good luck! Stay well"

The recipient - waitress Lauren Jewel had to do a double take at the receipt and had this to say about the outpouring of support  - “There are people out there that are matching the check but our tips are higher than our sales sometimes...It has been astounding. It showed me how selfless this community is.”

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins reveals his all-time favorite Foos song (and his second favorite)

With Foo Fighters  highly-anticipated 10th album Medicine At Midnight due out in February, drummer Taylor Hawkins has reflected on his favorite all time FF songs – both including him, and before he joined the band.

Hawkins revealed to Matt Wilkinson on Apple Music 1his love for the song Aurora  from 1999’s There Is Nothing Left To Lose album – his first LP with the Foo Fighters.

“I love that side of Dave [Grohl].  I love it when Dave gets in his almost yacht rock softness in his voice and he double tracks his voice really nice. And that was the first drum track that I ever did for the Foo Fighters that I was really, really proud of, because I only played half the drums on the Nothing Left To Lose record, because it was my first time in the studio and I was just… I didn’t know how to record. Recording drums and playing live are just super different and the mistakes are polarised heavily, once you’re under the scrutiny of the microphones. You had to do it right.”

He went on to share his love for the timeless opening song on the band’s 1995 self-titled debut: This Is A Call.

“I could also say the first time I heard This Is a Call was the first time I heard the Foo Fighters and I wasn’t in the band yet.  I was playing with Alanis [Morissette] and we were all in the van, traversing the Foo Fighters, playing all the same clubs as they were. And it was just funny, and we just wore that album out. And This Is a Call might be my favourite Foo Fighters song of all time, too.”

Taylor also discusesed listening to music at incredibly loud volumes with FFFrontman Dave Grohl - which sounds like heaven:

“Well it’s rock’n’roll, man, I like it loud.  Dave likes to listen to music so fucking loud, it’s crazy. When we listened to playbacks on the studio stuff, I can’t really hear it when it’s that loud. It’s so loud that it just is distorted to me. You know what I mean? I used to drive around in Dave’s Suburban back in the ?’90s and his speakers were all blown. And we’d be listening to The Prodigy at 10, just flying around with cigarettes in our mouths, eating McDonald’s and fucking listening to The Prodigy at like 10, literally at 10. And your ears form their own sort of compression at that point and it’s just, I don’t like listening to music that loud. I like to hear it good.”

How do Taylor's top Foo Fighter picks line up with yours ...

Bleachers head to the rooftop with Bruce Springsteen and perform their collaborative track 'Chinatown' Live

Bleachers have a new album on the way - and the lead single from it, chinatown, features their fellow New Jersey native, Bruce Springsteen.

We've seen the official video for the song - and now we have a live version of the song - with Bruce Springsteen sitting in - filmed on the roof of the famed at Electric Lady Studios in New York City.

Check it out below:

Bleachers - 'chinatown' live on the rood electric lady studios ft. Bruce Springsteen

Bleachers also revealed a live rendition of the song '45' from the session

Bleachers - '45' live on the rood electric lady studios

On why they filmed at ELS- Jack Antoff had this to say :

“I go to Electric Lady every day to work.  I sit on the roof for hours and hours. Probably spent more time on that roof this year than my bed. Kept imagining the band up there on all the different levels playing on 8th street with everything patched into the console of studio D. Was the first time we played these songs and the first time we played together since the pandemic. Was like a dream.”

Hopefully this isn't the last we see of this collaboration live :)

Dave Grohl Kicks Off Night One of His 'Hanukkah Sessions' with a Cover of Beastie Boys' Sabotage

Christmas songs ... that's so 2019 - at least according to the boundary pushing force known as Dave Grohl.

Dave announced this week that he will be teaming up with long time collaborator and producer Greg Kurstin for  The Hanukkah Sessions!, a new eight-song series of covers by Jewish artists every night of Hanukkah

In a tweet on Foos’ account, Dave explained -

“This year, instead of doing a Christmas song, Greg and I decided to celebrate Hanukkah by recording eight songs by eight famous Jewish artists and releasing one song each night of Hanukkah.  With all the mishegas of 2020, Greg Kurstin and I were kibbitzing about how we could make Hannukah extra-special this year. Festival of Lights?! How about a festival of tasty licks! So hold on to your tuchuses… we’ve got something special coming for your shayna punims.”

And in typical Dave fashion - he kicked off the festival of lights going straight to 5th gear with an amazing interpretation of Beastie Boys' Sabotage

"As the only Rock and Roll Hall Of Famers with a lyric about kugel, we thought it would be a shanda to not kick off this party with New York’s (and Abraham’s) finest…known by some as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abedenego, known by others as Ad-Rock, Mike D, and MCA…known by their Imas and Abbas as Adam Horovitz, Mike Diamond and Adam Yauch… Beastie Boys!"

Please don't ever stop Daving Dave!

Fast & Furious: Annapolis Drift - Travis Pastrana shares the full length film of his Ego Alley jump and DTA stunt driving adventures

Several weeks ago - it was revealed that Naptown native Travis Pastrana and a film crew had been granted a filming permit in parts of Downtown Annapolis  ... details were scarce about what the filming would include - but we did know that Travis would be jumping over Ego Alley at City Dock

Turns out that was just the beginning of the film  You can check out the full version of Travis driving his 862hp Subaru through the streets on Annapolis

Brandi Carlile Reveals Details of her 'Still Home For The Holidays' Livestream Concert

There's Not Too Much You Can Say in Moments Like This: Bob Waugh Shares the News of John Lennon's Death Live on WLIR (12/8/80)

It was 40 years ago today...

I was on the air at my first radio station, WLIR in New York.

I had just started on the air on that fateful Monday night.

I answered the request line and a listener said “Howard Cosell just said (on Monday Night Football) that John Lennon has been shot.

The news director at WLIR, Steve North, was working late that night. I asked him if he’d heard anything, and could he check on this bizarre report?

A few minutes later, Steve entered the news booth and pointed to the microphone. I had no idea what was about to unfold.

That night haunted me for nearly 4 decades. Not only because of the unspeakable tragedy of John Lennon’s murder, but because of the way I handled it on the air. I simply wasn’t experienced enough, as a rookie DJ, to know what to do with that moment.

I’d never heard a recording of my show from December 8th, 1980 until recently.

Someone found it,  sent it to my old friend Steve North, and he forwarded it to me.

This is what it sounded like, on one radio station, on Long Island, in New York.

Bob Dylan Has Sold the Rights to His Entire Songwriting Catalog to Universal Music Group

Universal Music Group now owns around 60 years of Bob Dylan’s music, in a landmark deal the company announced on Monday - approximately a total of 600 songs.

The landmark deal means that all future radio play, licensing usage and covers of Dylan’s songs will now send all royalties made to UMG.  Dylan reportedly received around  $300 million in the deal

UMG’s CEO Lucian Grainge said in a  statement:

As someone who began his career in music publishing, it is with enormous pride that today we welcome Bob Dylan to the UMG family. It’s no secret that the art of songwriting is the fundamental key to all great music, nor is it a secret that Bob is one of the very greatest practitioners of that art. Brilliant and moving, inspiring and beautiful, insightful and provocative, his songs are timeless—whether they were written more than half a century ago or yesterday.

I guess you can say - Dylan song the farm :)

The Flaming Lips Forced to Postpone Their 'World's First Space Bubble Concert' to 2021

Well ... The Flaming Lips  teased it ... tested it ... scheduled it ... and now have made the decision to delay  the "World's First Space Bubble Concert" due the surge in Covid cases in Oklahoma City

In response to the  COVID-19 outbreak, Wayne Coyne told Rolling Stone:

“It’s worse here than it’s ever been,” frontman “We know of an emergency room worker just a couple of nights ago who said someone came in, and they didn’t have any place for them, and they died, and they shouldn’t have died. They were a young person. The mayor is advising us, ‘Let’s not get together in big groups’ … I think we’re just feeling like this is going against what our concerts are really about.”

The concert are now scheduled for January 21-22, 2021

The band has agreed to refund anyone who cannot make the new dates ...

Watch the Strokes battle robots on the diamond in their new video for "The Adults Are Talking"

The Strokes new single from their aptly titled 2020 album The New Abnormal 'The Adults are Talking' has a video - and it is just as bizarre as a song from an album called The New Abnormal should be.

The band tapped long time collaborator Roman Coppola to direct the video - which sees the band go up against a team of robots in a baseball game. The band lose the game 56-1 but go on celebrate like they’ve won the World Series ... because, why not!
