Morrissey: New Album Is Done - But Doesn

Morrissey has a new album ready to be released - but no label to release it.

“The worst year of my life concludes with the best album of my life” Moz says on his website - but the 11 song effort, Bonfire of Teenagers, has no set release date because he is currently unsigned.

Despite being able to release it himself - he is shopping the record 'to the highest (or lowest) bidder'.

Morrissey's last album -  I Am Not A Dog On A Chain, was released via BMI in March 2020 - but  after new management took over the label - the label dropped him.  He was also dropped by Capitol records back in 2014.

To tide you over until the record finds a label to release it - here's the artwork and song listing

Bonfire of Teenagers Tracklist:

01. I Am Veronica
02. Rebels Without Applause
03. Kerouac Crack
04. Ha Ha Harlem
05. I Live In Oblivion
06. Bonfire of Teenagers
07. My Funeral
08. Diana Dors
09. I Ex-Love You
10. Sure Enough, The Telephone Rings
11. Saint In A Stained Glass Window

Injection Incentive: Florida Concert Promoter Offering $1000 Concert Tickets For $18 To People Who've Received Their Covid Vaccine

There's been tons of people offering incentives for people to get their COVID-19 vaccinations - from free donuts to cash from the MD Lottery - but a concert promoter in Florida has come up with a new one - selling $1000 concert tickets to vaccinated music fans for just $18.

The concert - scheduled for June 26 at the VFW Post 39 venue in St. Petersburg - features three punk rock banks: Teenage Bottlerocket, MakeWar and Rutterkin.

Promoter Paul Williams came up with the idea "to be a vaccine drive to get the fence-sitters off the fence .. and  to get the kids that want to go to shows to go out and get their shots."

There were 254 tickets available for the show - 250 of the discounted tickets and 4 full price tickets ... the 250 discounted tickets have all been sold - but for those who don't care about the discount - the full price tickets are still available .

Are the Foo Fighters planning a 2021 tour? Some cryptic posts have us thinking they are

After 12+ months of no concerts - the tour announcements are popping up fast and furious ... each week we get a dose of another amazing tour.  And four FOO FEELINGS are thinking the Foo Fighters might be one of the next bands to drop the news of a tour on us ...

Let's review the evidence - first off - 2020 was supposed to be a major year for the band - celebrating their 25th anniversary ... and capping it off with an all day festival called DC Jam on the 4th of July  - but 2020 2020'd those plans ...

Since then - the band has released a new album (and will want to tour to support it), they have popped up as headliners for a number of festivals- including Lollapalooza in July,  Bonnaroo and BottleRock in September, and Boston Calling in 2022.

Then - things get a little interesting ....

Last week - the bands shared a cryptic video on their social media channels of the number 25, with a Foo Fighters logo in the center (just like they did to promote the 2020 tour) - but this towards the end of this video - a hand wearing a spiked wristband comes into the frame and spray paints a “6” over the number “5.”

And it wasn't just the band who shared the video - several Midwest venues and concert promoters shared it too - including Summerfest in Milwaukee, FPC Live in Madison WI  and the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in St. Louis.

Then - over Memorial Day Weekend - the band kept the cryptic messages coming - with posts about 'getting back to work on Tuesday morning'

So what does it all mean?  We'll have to wait and see - but it could be a major tour announcement ... or maybe we've been watching too many Law and Order marathons

Watch 1000 Musicians Simultaniously Play The White Stripes, Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Nirvana, and Queen

Back in 2015 - a group called a group in Italy calling themselves the Rockin’1000 set out with a mission to perform “four miracles" - find one thousand musicians, get them to play simultaneously at the biggest rock show ever, collect enough money to make it real, convince the Foo Fighters to play a gig in their small town of Cesena.

Amazingly - they were able to accomplish the first three of the 'miracles' and after a video of the performance having millions of worldwide views, the Foo Fighters granted the final miracle and gave a 3 hour concert dedicated to the Thousand, all the donors and the volunteers involved in the July performance.

Learn to Fly - Foo Fighters Rockin'1000 Official Video

But why stop there - the group decided to stick with it and become “the biggest Rock Band on Earth” and even performed a 17 song set together at Manuzzi Stadium in Cesena.  And they continued to do so every year until 2020 - check out some of these amazing  covers of The White Stripes, Queen, David Bowie, and Nirvana.

Seven Nation Army - Rockin'1000

Rebel Rebel - Rockin'1000

We Will Rock You - Rockin'1000

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Rockin'1000

And next year - the band is getting back together - so if  you sing or play a rock instrument, and can be in Paris next May,  sign up to be a part of Rockin’1000’s next gig here.

Huge Lot of Nirvana Memorabilia Is Up For Auction, Including A Kurt Cobain Self-Portrait, Autographed Posters, and Kurt's Goggles

Julien's Auctions has yet another huge rock and roll memorabilia auction going on - and it includes a large amount Nirvana items  - ranging from Kurt Cobain's swimming goggles to a self portrait of the late lead singer.

The description of the portrait - that at the time of writing has a current bid of $22,000, reads:

A self-portrait caricature drawing done by Kurt Cobain of himself playing the guitar, signed on the left of the drawing "Kurdt Kobain Rock Star" and handwritten on the right "I don't know how to play and I don't give a hoot!" The drawing is done with black felt pen on TNT Music Centre [sic] in Singapore stationery, mounted on board, with a white matted cardboard frame.

Cobain made the drawing and gifted it to Jacque Chong, a freelance photographer who worked with Cobain during Nirvana's Nevermind album promotional tour in Singapore in 1992. Independent label Dover Street Market Ginza has previously reproduced the drawing on its fashion apparel, with Chong's permission. The additional photographs on view are of Cobain and Chong in his hotel as well as a group photograph that includes the two.

Other items on the auction block of interest:

An autographed Rolling Stone magazine

An autographed tour poster

A handwritten set list from 1990

One of Kurt's guitar pedals

And of course - Kurt's swimming goggles

Live Music's Resurgence: Bandsintown Reports Over 220,000 Concerts Have Been Added To Their Site Since The Start Of The Year

In 2020 - as the world shuttered due to the COVID-19 pandemic - one of the first industries to shut down  and last to reopen - was the live music industry.  And now with vaccines being put in arms - bands are ready to hit the road and perform live (not live stream) again - and in a big way!

If you've been paying attention this past month - everyone is hitting the road - from Franki Valley to Future Islands and ALL THE festivals ...

The website Bandsintown - which artists can use to help promote their concerts - has released some of their figures this week - and they are CRAZY!

At the beginning of 2021- there were around 85,000 concerts listed on the site (and most of those were virtual live streams) ... the site now reports there are 222,170 shows listed -   and 78% of them will occur before year’s end!

And the fans are loving it - with ticket demand meeting the concert supply.  Firefly is reporting their best ticket sales ever.  Austin City Limits sold out in 3 hours - a festival record!

Bandsintown has seen similar demand, with Fabrice Sergent in a statement. :

“During May, we saw between 250,000 and 550,000 fans per day clicking to buy tickets. We can now predict that the number of fans purchasing tickets is on track to surpass pre-pandemic levels by the end of June,”

You can keep track of our favorite shows with the RNR Concert Calendar

Monday night he co-hosted the Tonight Show with Jimmy Kimmel

Dave was all hands on deck for the show  - chipping in on the opening monologue, the interviews, the sketches and even performed a couple of musical numbers.

He also played name that tune (and forgot the words to the Nirvana hit Lithium - oops) they recreated the popular The Best meme, and he told some classic Dave tales - including one about his mom chugging beers with Green Day!

Watch Phoebe Bridgers Eat Jackson Browne

The music video for Jackson Browne’s new single “My Cleveland Heart” features an appearance by Phoebe Bridgers.  The macabre scene shows Browne being brought into an operating room to have heart surgery and Bridgers as a nurse who ends up eating Browne’s heart as he gets fitted with an artificial one.

Browne said of the scene :

“I thought it was really appropriate to take out my worn-out, useless heart and hand it to Phoebe ... Who better to hand [it] to than somebody young, strong, and possibly as cynical as me?”

Bridgers has repeatedly cited Browne as an influence and she also recruited him for a cover of her song Kyoto

Grace Potter and The National's Matt Berninger cover Tom Petty for new documentary soundtrack [LISTEN]

Resynator is "a documentary film-in-progress that shares the unique journey of a daughter connecting with her late father through the resurrection of a synthesizer from the 1970s that he invented"

The film maker - who started working for Grace Potter in 2012 - became interested in learning about her father and his invention and made the film about it and wanted to bring it back to life.

Part of that project included  getting some pretty cool covers using the synthesizer for its soundtrack. First - is Grace Potter's take on Tom Petty's "Honey Bee"

Another cool take on a Petty classic is The National's Matt Berninger doing "Only A Broken Heart"

Not a Tom Petty cover - but Lucius  have submitted their version of Kraftwerk's "Computer Love" with and War On Drugs/Beirut member Jon Natchez

St Vincent turns sneaky private detective in her Warhol-esque video for 'Down' [WATCH]

One of the things we love about St Vincent is ever morphing style - and on her latest album, Daddy's Home (out this Friday, May 14, via Loma Vista)  - she pays homage to the styles of NYC from the ‘60s and ‘70s.

In the single for her latest video - Down - St Vincent uses old school colored celluloid film to have an Andy Warhol inspired look as a she tracks downa mysterious antagonist.  Check out the glorius quick editing, constant camera motion and the vintage, grainy visualization below:

Live Nation Reveals They've Already Booked Twice As Many Shows for 2022 Than They Did In All of 2019

You know when things you learned in school become useful in real life - this is one of those times ... there's a huge demand for live music by fans and concert promoters and bands know it and will supply an emormous amount of concerts in 2021 and 2022 ... concert giants Live Nation have gone as far as to say that they already have booked more shows in 2022 than they did in all of the pre-pandemic year of 2019.

Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino revealed  during a call with investors:

“Around the world, people are showing the need to get out and socialize once again which reinforces our expectation that a return to concerts will be the logical progression as vaccines are readily available to everyone who wants to get one ... This is generally already the case in the U.S. where we are confidently planning our reopenings, particularly for outdoor shows, and we expect many of our other major markets will follow this summer.”

“We are already seeing confirmed major tour dates for 2022 up double digits from the same time pre-pandemic in 2019 for 2020 ... Many of these artists will have multi-year tours, spanning the U.S., Europe and often either Asia or Latin America, setting us up for a strong multi-year growth run.”

Of all the shows already announced for 2021 and 2022 - what ones are you most looking forward to?

Pearl Jam Announce

Pearl Jam are the latest band to open up their digital vaults to their fans  ...  with Deep, a digital microsite consisting of nearly 200 Pearl Jam concerts spanning from 2000 to 2013.

The  Deep hub on Pearl Jam’s official site has over 186 bootlegs and 5,404 tracks from the past two decades, with each gig accompanied by show descriptions written by members of the band’s Ten Club fan club.

There are also fan curated playlists,  featuring the band's best covers, live performances and more.  Even more cool?  Subscribers can create their dream PJ gig via the Custom Setlist Generator — penned in Eddie Vedder’s own handwriting — with the dream setlist turned into a streamable playlist.

Out Of This World: Coldplay release new single 'Higher Power' via a dispatch from the International Space Station

After sending fans on a frantic Easter egg hunt - which they deciphered rather quicklyColdplay have finally shared their new single titled “Higher Power.”

The band, who had been teasing the release via their own Alien Radio platform,  premiered the song via an extraterrestrial transmission  from the International Space Station.

The track is a far cry from Coldplay's piano and guitar riff roots - but like people - a band's sound and style can (and should) grow and change over the years.  Give it a listen and let us know what you think

Wild Belle

Two months ago Natalie Bergman - one half of the brother sister duo Wild Belle - announced she would be releasing her solo debut album Mercy  on Third Man Records (read the emotional story behind the record HERE

The album is here - and to promote it - Bergman took part in Flood Magazine's Neighborhood sessions (the same one SHAED took part in just last week)

In the clip below - Natalie performs the cut “I’m Going Home” in a friend’s backyard .  She's accompanied on the bright gospel track - with a little bit of that Wild Belle tropical flair sprinkled in -  by  a full band decked out in all-white.

Nirvana fans can now bid on six strands of Kurt Cobain's hair in charity auction

A lot of Kurt Cobain / Nirvana memorabilia has hit the auction block over the years - from Kurt's clothing to his guitars - but this item might be the most unique ...

Fans can now bid to be the owner of six strands of the late singer's hair.  You read that right ..  his hair... starting bid is set at $2500

Proceeds from the hair- being sold at Iconic Auctions 'Amazing Music Auction' will benefit Crew Nation - a charity assisting out of work live music employees.

The auction description reads:

This one-of-a-kind artifact is entirely fresh-to-market and is accompanied by an impeccable lineage of provenance including photos of Kurt posing with the woman who cut this hair, scissors in hand, and a fantastic shot of the hair actually being cut! The lucky friend who trimmed the Nirvana frontman's iconic blond locks was an early confidant, Tessa Osbourne, who cut his hair in 1989 — well prior to his Nevermind breakthrough — while on the Bleach tour. Tessa presented the original lock to Seattle artist Nicole DePolo as a heartfelt gift after Kurt's passing, and she provided the original bag with handwritten provenance note, '29/10/89: Tess cut Kurt's hair in Birmingham, England, 27 Holy Rd., Handsworth, Birmingham B202BU.

The hair also comes with a two-page provenance affidavit to go along with it:

Tessa had known Kurt back in England, and they had hung out during the Bleach Tour. Nirvana had broken in England first, and she must have had a sense that Kurt would become a musical force. When it came to Kurt, Tessa was kind of what like Astrid Kirchherr had been to the Beatles — the woman who had given him his iconic haircut. She even had a series of pictures to prove it: a snapshot of her and Kurt with long straggly hair while she held a pair of scissors high, then a shot of the scissors going through about 7" of hair. The rest was history. Kurt was known for his bleached blond pageboy, and she'd given him his first one back in October of 1989, just before his image began to circulate throughout the world.

That was one of R.L. Burnside’s hits! We strayed a little from the original on our version with the falsetto and percussion, but we liked how it sounded in that moment. It’s become one of my favorites on the album.

Billie Eilish swaps baggy clothes for lingerie, discusses body image in latest issue of British Vogue

We have seen 19-year-old Billie Eilish's music transform over the past few years - from mumble rap to melodic melancholy songs ... but with the imminent release of her new album, Happier Than Ever - we are seeing a transformation in the singer's look as well.

Eilish was known to dress head to toe in baggy clothing  -  saying she didn’t want people to judge or sexualize her body.

However - she admitted that she might switch up her look when she hit adulthood.  And it appears that she has hit that point - dropping the green hair for blonde locks and the baggy clothing for a sleeker look - including lingerie for the latest cover of the British  edition of Vogue magazine.

Eilish opened up about body image in the article -

“It’s all about what makes you feel good ... If you want to get surgery, go get surgery. If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing, f–k it. If you feel like you look good, you look good”

On her evolved sound, she said

“I’ve grown so much and gotten so much better in my voice — it’s crazy to think about ... I think change is one of the best gifts in the world.”

On growing up -

“People always say, ‘How would your younger self feel about you now?’ And that’s a good thing to think about in some cases ... But I also think you shouldn’t try to be a person that your old self would like, and you shouldn’t try to be a person that your future self is going to be. You should be exactly who you feel like you are and want to be in that moment.

“Otherwise, you’re going to go insane.”

Eilish will release her sophomore album, Happier Than Ever on July 30  - hear the first single, Your Power, HERE

Maryland judge cites Talking Heads in his opinion for case about wastewater management

This week - a judge on Maryland's Court of Special Appeals picked some familiar words in his opinion - in a case about wastewater management.  He opened the document stating:

“Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down Letting the days go by, water flowing underground Into the blue again, into the silent water.
Under the rocks and stones, there is water underground.”

Yep - retired Judge Glenn T. Harrell, Jr. used lyrics from the great Talking Heads song  "Once in a Lifetime" in his opinion on a petition that 'flowed' from a petition filed in Queen Anne's County on storm water discharge. You can read the full opinion HERE
