Watch Foo's drummer Taylor Hawkins take over on lead vocals on the band's disco cover of

Back in February, usual Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl dropped a little nugget on BBC Radio 2 -

“Somebody said, ?‘Hey, have you seen that Bee Gees documentary?’ And I was like the last person on earth – the only person that hadn’t seen it! So I was like, ?‘Why don’t we just do a Bee Gees song?’ And someone was just like, ?‘OK… how do you wanna do it?!’ And I said: ?‘Well, let’s do it like the Bee Gees,’”

The output of that conversation - was a masterpiece of an album - Hail Satin - released exclusively on Record Store Day, under the moniker Dee Gees.  The record features covers of  four Bee Gees songs and the Andy Gibb solo track ‘Shadow Dancing’, plus five live versions of songs from the band’s 2020 studio album ‘Medicine at Midnight’.

The band has now released an official video for their Shadow Dancing cover - featuring the band's drummer, Taylor Hawkins, on lead vocals!

Hail Satin was a limited physical release - only 12,000 records were pressed.   So getting your hands on one now might be tough - but it was released to streaming services as well

Stream Joni Mitchell's Recently Unearthed 1968 Performance Of 'The Dawntreader' Recorded By Jimi Hendrix

On March 19, 1968, Joni Mitchell played two surprise sets at Café Le Hibou in Ottawa. Also in town that night was Jimi Hendrix, playing two shows of his own at the  Capitol Theater earlier that night.

But it seems that Jimi wasn't content with just playing his show - as he explained  his diary:

“Talked with Joni Mitchell on the phone. I think I’ll record her tonight with my excellent tape recorder (knock on wood) . . . hmmm . . . can’t find any wood . . . everything’s plastic.”

The late guitar great ended up recording Joni - who he praised as a “fantastic girl with heaven words.” - and not on his phone - he used an entire reel-to-reel recoding device (!) while kneeling inconspicuously at the front of the stage.

Sadly - the tape of the show was stolen just a few days later and never to be seen again - until recently - when  it was discovered in a donation made to the Library and Archives Canada and subsequently returned it to Mitchell.

And now those recordings are being released as part of Mitchell’s latest archival box set. Joni Mitchell Archives Vol. 2: The Reprise Years (1968-1971) features nearly six hours of unreleased home, studio, and live recordings. The five-CD, 10-LP package includes the Le Hibou performances recorded by Hendrix. It also encompasses a BBC live broadcast with James Taylor, a demo recorded at Jane Lurie’s apartment in NYC, lots of early home demos by Mitchell, and more.

Below you can stream "The Dawntreader" from that 1968 concert that Jimi Hendrix recorded.

It feels like now is as good a time as any, and we are excited to play in some places we haven’t played since the early days of the band and for fans that have not had a chance to see us in a while.”

The band hopes to make this a tradition - so maybe we can convince them to come to Cambridge, Maryland on the next leg of the tour

Right On Time: Brandi Carlile's first official music release since 2018 was worth the wait [LISTEN]

Brandi Carlile's last official music release was 2018’s incredible Grammy Award winning album  “By the Way, I Forgive You”  But today - our patience paid off and we are graced with a new song "Right On Time"

In Brandi's words -

It’s been nearly four years since we released “The Joke” into the world and it changed our lives forever. It’s taken me a long time to create and believe in another song in the same way I believed in that song - I knew that I would take as long as I needed even if it meant years… and it did. Here it is… a little late but “Right On Time”.

We are totally digging the Joni Mitchell vibes on this track and cannot wait to hear more!

Fun fact - the video for the song was directed by actress Courtney Cox

“Making Jaime was so much fun for me because I was able to explore so many different genres of music.  There were no rules. This reimagination project has been no different. The Killers, photo by Danny Clinch

Well - now in 2021 - they're trying a mulligan - revealing that they will release their 7th album - Pressure Machine - on August 13.

The album is inspired by Brandon Flowers’ hometown of Nephi, Utah:

“Had it not been for advancements in the automotive industry, Nephi in the ’90s could have been the 1950s ... I discovered this grief that I hadn’t dealt with - many memories of my time in Nephi are tender. But the ones tied to fear or great sadness were emotionally charged. I’ve got more understanding now than when we started the band, and hopefully I was able to do justice to these stories and these lives in this little town that I grew up in.”

In addition  Flowers noted that the new record is a product of  the band not being able to tour in 2020 -

“It was the first time in a long time for me that I was faced with silence - and out of that silence this record began to bloom, full of songs that would have otherwise been too quiet and drowned out by the noise of typical Killers records.”

Speaking of touring - The Killers have annouced a 2022 tour - that includes a September 29 date at The Anthem in DC

The band’s touring guitarist Dave Keuning recently admitted they have also made a “good start” on their eighth album

A stacked lineup of artists have contributed to I'll Be Your Mirror: A Tribute to The Velvet Underground & Nico (due out this September)

Artists included on the tribute to the classic 1967 album, include  Courtney Barnett, Iggy Pop & Matt Sweeney, Michael Stipe, Kurt Vile & The Violators, St Vincent & Thomas Bartlett, Sharon Van Etten with Angel Olsen, Andrew Bird & Lucius, The National's Matt Berninger, and more (see full list below)

The first taste of the album comes in the form of Kurt Vile's cover of Run Run Run"

According to Kurt -

“I literally covered 'Run Run Run' when I was a kid ... In my late teens with my band at the time. So it was pretty cosmic, let’s say. There is a direct connection to certain indie bands and beyond w/ the Velvets. That’s why the Velvets are a classic. You know it can have doo-wop in there and things like that, but it can also have this jagged noisy thing, and it immediately let me feel like I could do anything. The possibilities are endless. You’re completely free. Unapologetic and effortless."

Some of the lyrics might be a little obscure because I use peculiar English idioms, but I constantly fall in love with records in other languages in which I don't even know one or two courtesy words. Behind The Song: Details On The Origins Of 'Everlong' By Foo Fighters Revealed By The Song's Subject: Louise Post

In 1996, Dave Grohl was in the perfect phase of life to write Foo Fighters’ sophomore album: The Colour And The Shape.   He was going through a divorce with his first wife and starting a  new relationship Louise Post of Veruca Salt ... one of the creative outputs to come from this time was not only a Foo Fighters masterpiece - but one of the most iconic rock songs of the last 25 years: Everlong (side note - it only took Dave 45 minutes to write the song)

All these years later - someone pointed Post to a YouTube video that isolates the drums and vocals on the song and revealed how she ended up being on the song and that she was song's inspiration.

Post took to Instagram to say:

I sang these back-ups over the phone at 2am after being woken up from a deep sleep in Chicago by DG who was tracking the vocals for “Everlong” in LA. He wanted me to sing the doo-doo’s, which were inspired by our song “Shimmer Like a Girl”. While I was at it, I wrote a harmony for the chorus and sang that too. The whispered section of this song was originally the dream I was having when the phone rang. It was a dream about us. He later removed it and replaced with his own whispers, one which was a love letter to me. Maybe I’ll tell the full story…eventually…if I feel like it. But I just came across this post and thought I would share for anyone who is interested. XoL

Grohl and Post's relationship ended badly - after Grohl supposedly cheated on her  with Winona Ryder — but seems like she is OK with the breakup and OK with being the subject of such a great song

The Black Keys

In 2012 - Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys was the producer behind the beloved New Orleans artist Dr. John album Locked Down.

Cameras were rolling during the recording session - and now Auerbach will make his directorial debut with a documentary based on the late Dr John, who passed in 2019.

In a press release, Auerbach spoke of the late great  Dr. John

“(he) was such a unique individual and a shining example of the great melting pot of American music. From his mysterious voodoo stage persona Dr. John, to his real, humble self Mac Rebannack—the street poet, the family man, the junkie, the Grammy award winner and all that’s in between—this documentary will introduce the world to him in a way they haven’t seen him before. I’m still learning bits about him that I never knew, and I hope the movie provides a lens into the story of the life of Dr. John.”

The film is being made in conjuntion with made with RadicalMedia and Impact Artist Productions.

Marvel's Black Widow Soundtrack Features This Amazing Cover of Nirvana

Black Widow - the next installment of the Marvel Universe has hit theaters  - and grunge fans get a bit of a treat when a cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” pops up in a major part of the film's story

The cover - from 2015 - is performed by singer-songwriter Malia J, who told Consequence she was contacted by Marvel in February 2020

“honestly thought it was a joke and didn’t immediately respond...A different version of this cover has been circulating in the TV/film industry since 2015, and I can only speculate that someone from their camp was a fan and wanted to put it in the movie!”

She was thrilled to have the track in the film ...

“I found out during the pandemic, and the news lifted my spirits up during such a dark time ... I had no idea this song would end up being in a Marvel film, let alone the opening credits. I am such a fan of Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh — to be a part of something they are involved with is a dream come true.”

We won't give away any spoilers - just the audio of the amazing cover:

The archival project is a remixed, remastered, and reimagined version of 1996's Songs and Music from the Motion Picture “She’s The One," and  features four previously unreleased songs from the Wildflowers era: “One Of Life’s Little Mysteries,” “Thirteen Days,” “105 Degrees,” and “French Disconnection” - which you can stream below

Longtime Petty band mate Mike Campbell is a big fan of the release, saying:

There’s some cool stuff on this record that has never come out before. I especially love the JJ Cale song ‘13 Days.’ We had a lot of fun playing that song live and it’s great to have a recording of it from the studio. ‘Supernatural Radio’ is extended with some great jamming interplay within the band, which I’m very proud of. The Heartbreakers could be really amazing and spontaneous. I hope you enjoy these little gems as much as I do.

Dave Grohl calls himself the 'most basic f---ing drummer' who ripped off The Gap Band in new interview [WATCH]

It appears that the Bee Gees aren't the only disco band Dave Grohl loves ...

In a new interview for the Paramount+ show From Cradle To Stage, the Foo Fighters / Dee Gees frontman talks about the disco beats that inspired his drumming when he was in Nirvana.

“I’m the most basic fucking drummer .. If you listen to Nevermind … the Nirvana record … I pulled so much stuff from the Gap Band and Cameo and [Chic]’s Tony Thompson on every one of those songs. All that … that’s old disco!” The show helpfully plays a bit of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” followed by a bit of the Gap Band’s 1982 hit “You Dropped A Bomb On Me."

Grohl continued

"Nobody makes the connection.  I told Tony Thompson that. He came to my house for a barbecue with somebody and I was like, ‘Man, I just want to thank you because I owe you so much. I’ve been ripping you off my whole life.’ He goes: ‘I know.'”

Dave also admits in the interview - all he wanted to do as a kid was to be part of a drum line in the school band -- only he couldn't read music so he was never able to
